Round three of the German Golf League (DGL) presented by All4Golf was dominated by two clubs in the 1st Bundesliga: The men's and women's teams from GC Hubbelrath came out on top in the double-header at GC Hösel (North). In the south, both teams from GC St. Leon-Rot scored full points at GC Solitude in Stuttgart (women) and GC Augsburg (men). And they did so in heavy rain and with a new course record.
The women's 1st German Golf League South stands for consistency: The third DGL match day at Stuttgart's GC Solitude also saw familiar placings: St. Leon-Rot (+25) ahead of hosts Solitude (+32) and Frankfurt GC (+57). Behind them, as in rounds one and two, were Münchener GC (+72) and promoted Reichswald (+108), who will have to come to terms with the fact that their 1st Bundesliga adventure is likely to be a short one. "Under these conditions, we managed to keep the game together quite well for the most part. The aim was to have 15 points in our account after three match days; in this respect, we are on course," explained SLR women's coach Sebastian Buhl. The course at GC Solitude in Stuttgart demanded a lot from the teams with numerous rain showers and wind gusts of up to 70 km/h. "Of course we would have liked to win at home, but it was really very tough to play today. Lots of wind and rain, plus very difficult flag positions. Maybe we can upset St. Leon-Rot a bit more in Munich in two weeks' time and then even acquire Helen Briem for the fourth matchday," said Stuttgart coach Heiko Burkhard. Next match day: June 21/22 at the Munich GC.
Numerous interruptions due to heavy rain: In the women's 1st Bundesliga North, the foursomes on Saturday could not even be scored. The capricious weather continued in the singles on Sunday, but in the end there was a winner. In the end, the ladies from GC Hubbelrath (+42) came out on top and won five valuable points, catapulting them from the basement of the table into mid-table and keeping their Final Four ambitions alive. They were followed by the ladies of G&LC Berlin-Wannsee, who moved into second place ahead of hosts Hösel in the photo finish. Both teams were tied with a total of +47. So the better score had to decide - and in this classification Wannsee (+8) was just ahead of Hösel (+9). Berlin is therefore the new leader of the table, as Hamburg (+54) only finished in fourth place. "Of course it's nice to get the five points. But from my point of view, we didn't play that well. But it wasn't easy overall. It was wet, windy and cold," said Hubbelrath coach Ian Holloway. Next match day: June 21/22 in Hubbelrath.
The men in the 1st Bundesliga South once again played a thriller on the third DGL match day at GC Augsburg. Similar to two weeks ago in Frankfurt, every single shot was at stake in the end. SLR coach Benjamin Schlichting and his team went into Sunday's singles with a comfortable lead, which was also due to Nils-Levi Bock's course record (65/-8) from the previous day. "But we opened the door for the Munich team and they really came knocking," said Schlichting. Finally, he was able to breathe a sigh of relief after the last Putt. It was enough for another five points, after his team had recently made a new experience with third place in Frankfurt. Team SLR won with a total of -7 ahead of a strong Munich team (-1) and the Frankfurt GC (Even). They were followed by hosts Augsburg (+15) and Mannheim-Viernheim (+60) in fourth and fifth place. "I'm very proud of the team. The performance on Sunday was very strong, especially in these difficult conditions. Now we're looking forward to the home fixture in two weeks' time," said MGC coach Arne Dickel. Next match day: June 21/22 at the Munich GC.

Stamina was also required for the men in the north. As with the women, Saturday's foursomes were not scored due to the thunderstorm. So the singles on Sunday had to decide the outcome - and that's where GC Hubbelrath had the best nerves. "It really was a crazy day with all the interruptions. We were already doing well in round one. Our boys were then in the flow in the foursomes. So it was all the more disappointing when we had to stop. But on Sunday we got straight back on the gas, even though the next interruption was not long in coming," said Hubbelrath coach Alex Schmitt. His team won the day with a total score of +14 ahead of hosts Hösel (+29) and Berlin-Wannsee (+31). As a result, the Rhineland teams pushed the Hamburg GC (+48) into third place in the table. Maik Süßbier (G&LC Berlin-Wannsee) and Thomas Georg Schmidt (GC Hösel) posted the best rounds in extremely adverse conditions. The Berliner played the lowest score of the tournament with 66 strokes (-5), while Schmidt signed for a 67 (-4). Next match day: June 21/22 at GC Hubbelrath.
After five match days in the 1st Bundesliga North and South, the two best teams in each season (men's and women's) qualify for the Final Four. The 2025 German team champions will be determined in match play mode at the GC Munich-Riedhof course on August 2-3.
