The concept of touch-sensitive controls without buttons or knobs is the hallmark of the Touch series from Flat Cat. With the predecessor model, the Touch 2.0, the manufacturer established a control system that did without buttons and knobs and instead relied on finely tuned sensor technology. The new Flat Cat Touch 3.0 now takes this concept into the next generation. But what has really changed under the hood and in terms of material properties?
The eponymous touch grip remains the centerpiece. While the 2.0 used a pulse-based system to control propulsion, the Touch 3.0 works with an optimized sensor that translates hand movements into speed even more smoothly and directly.
Of technical interest to performance-oriented users is the introduction of two different performance modes: "Standard" and "Sport". This allows the response of the two maintenance-free wheel hub motors to be varied - a feature that was missing from the predecessor and provides more control, especially on challenging, hilly terrain.Dialogue instead of silence: the LED feedback system
Probably the most striking innovation in the operating logic is the LED light feedback. While the Touch 2.0 was still largely "silent", the 3.0 now enters into a visual dialog with users. A multicolored LED on the handle provides immediate information about:
This visual guidance system eliminates the occasional uncertainty with the predecessor as to whether a command has been registered by the system or which mode the Trolley is in.
The design has also evolved mechanically. The Touch 3.0 relies on a titanium-aluminum hybrid frame, which is supplemented by GRP components (glass fiber reinforced plastic). This material mix is aimed at increasing torsional rigidity, which is particularly noticeable when fully loaded (up to 40 kg).
The new magnetic straps are also noticeable in everyday handling. Whereas the Touch 2.0 still used classic tensioning straps to secure the bag, the magnetic fasteners now allow the equipment to be secured much faster and with less effort. The manufacturer has also taken modern requirements into account and integrated a USB port directly on the handle to charge GPS devices or smartphones during the tour.
Flat Cat continues to rely on proven lithium iron phosphate technology (LiFePo4) for energy storage, which is known for its durability and thermal stability. The range remains consistently high at up to 36 holes. However, progress has been made in the charging process: the new premium fast charger reduces the charging time to around 3 hours.
One noteworthy aspect is the ecological fingerprint: the battery is completely cobalt-free, and the manufacturer is increasingly focusing on recycled aluminum and short supply routes in production.
The Flat Cat Touch 3.0 is not a reinvention of the wheel, but a consistent technical refinement. For owners of a Touch 2.0, the new LED feedback, the magnetic straps and the quick-charging function offer real added value in terms of ease of use. For newcomers, the 3.0 marks the current state of the art in intuitive e-trolley control.
