The Race to Dubai is more than just a tournament series - it is the highlight of the season on the DP World Tour, where the aim is to crown the best golfer of the season. The entire season is divided into different phases that allow players to collect valuable points for the final tournament.
The season begins with the "Global Swings", a series of five tournament series grouped by geographical region. Each of these swings, which has its own ranking list, offers players the opportunity to collect valuable points for the Race to Dubai. Tournaments in the Global Swings offer between 3,000 and 4,000 points, while the four Majors are worth 10,000 points each.
It is crucial for the players to be successful in the Swings, as the leading player in each Swing is crowned "Swing Champion". This not only secures him an award, but also a place in the next decisive phase of the season: "The Back 9".
| Position | Prize money |
|---|---|
| 1 | 2,000,000.00 |
| 2 | 1,000,000.00 |
| 3 | 750,000.00 |
| 4 | 550,000.00 |
| 5 | 450,000.00 |
| 6 | 350,000.00 |
| 7 | 300,000.00 |
| 8 | 250,000.00 |
| 9 | 200,000.00 |
| 10 | 150,000.00 |
After the "Global Swings", the season moves on to "The Back 9" phase. This involves nine historic tournaments in which players can collect even more points. Each of these tournaments offers a high score of 5,000 points to the winner, making them decisive for the placement in the Race to Dubai. At this stage, golfers are fighting to consolidate their positions in the rankings and secure a place for the Players.
This part of the season is the main way for players to qualify for the final Players and achieve the best starting positions. At the end of the season, the competition culminates in the final Players, which consist of two decisive tournaments and decide the overall winner. The final ranking of the Race to Dubai then decides who gets to stay on the DP World Tour. The (approx.) best 120 players also receive a full Tour card for the coming season and can choose which events they want to compete in.
The top ten players of the season are even eligible to play on the PGA Tour. Although the competition there is even greater than on the DP World Tour, the prize money is also much higher. The top ten also receive a share of the Race to Dubai bonus pool (see table).
